Scientists have developed a new non-toxic material that uses solar energy to degrade harmful synthetic dye pollutants which are released at a rate of nearly 300,000 tonnes a year into the worlds water. The research was published in the  journal Scientific Reports.

As a result of the incredibly small size of the two material components - both the tantalum nitride and tungsten oxide are typically less than 40 billionths of a metre in diameter - the composite provides a huge surface area for dye capture. The material then proceeds to break the dye down into smaller, harmless molecules using the energy provided by sunlight, in a process known as "photo-catalytic degradation.

The novel, non-hazardous photo-catalytic material developed researchers at Swansea University in the UK effectively removes dye pollutants from water, adsorbing more than 90 per cent of the dye and enhancing the rate of dye breakdown by almost ten times using visible light.

While the photo-catalytic degradation of dyes has toilet stools Manufacturers been investigated for several decades, it is only relatively recently that researchers have developed materials capable of absorbing the visible part of the solar spectrum – other materials, such as titanium dioxide, are also able to break down dyes using solar energy, but their efficiency is limited as they only absorb higher energy, ultra-violet light.

"Having removed the harmful dyes, the catalyst may simply be filtered from the cleaned water and reused."Were also exploring its viability in other areas, such as the photocatalysed splitting of water to generate hydrogen," said Jones.. By heating the reaction mixture at high pressures inside a sealed container, the composite is synthesised by growing ultra-thin "nanowires" of tungsten oxide on the surface of tiny particles of tantalum nitride."Now that weve demonstrated the capabilities of our composite, we aim to not just improve on the material further, but to also begin work on scaling up the synthesis for real-world application," said Daniel Jones, from the Energy Safety Research Institute in Swansea University.By making use of a much greater range of the spectrum, the new materials are able to remove pollutants at a far superior rate

Worried over continuous dip in exports, the Commerce Ministry is working on a proposal to enhance the logistics competitiveness of exporters and is discussing it with the railways as well as port authorities. Shipments witnessed growth only in June this year but entered into the negative zone again in July and August. It had asked the government to invest to modernise roads, ports, railways, airports, power and customs stations.

FIEO Director General Ajay Sahai said that improvement in port infrastructure would help in reducing transaction costs and boost shipments. As part of the proposal, the department of commerce is suggesting to the Railways Ministry that it needs to clearly distinguish between consignments for exports, imports and general in terms of the freight rates, an official said. In India, China kids stools the container transport is heavily inclined in favour of roads due to high freight rates of railway, unpredictable and unreliable scheduling of freight trains, and poor last-mile connectivity. Between December 2014 and May 2016, exports fell for 18 months straight due to weak global demand and slide in oil prices. It has also suggested to the railways to work on ways to reduce the delivery time of consignments providing to traders more predictability and reliability.

A Commerce Ministry strategy paper released in 2010 had emphasised upon the need to invest billions in improving infrastructure to boost exports. Railways should give competitive rates to exporters," the official said, adding that cross-subsidisation between passenger and freight trains is also impacting the railways in terms of transportation. Currently, traders have to spend a lot of time in off- loading and on-loading their consignments from ports, impacting the country's trade. Citing an example, an industry expert said the time taken for delivery of consignment through Railways from Tughlakabad, in Delhi to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) is huge and needs to be reduced to about 36 hours.

"Logistics costs of exports are currently very high in India and due to this, Indian goods are less competitive in the global markets. The Commerce Ministry is also in consultations with the ports authorities for timely handling of cargo.. Indian exporters time and again demand drastic cuts in freight rates to enhance their price competitiveness in the global markets. To boost shipments of both goods and services, the Commerce Ministry is pressing for better exchange rate policy, alignment of freight rates with global standards and a liberalised visa regime.Logistics costs of exports are currently very high in India and due to this Indian goods are less competitive in the global markets

Perched on top of the 19-story rocket was NASA’s robot explorer Osiris-Rex, built by Lockheed Martin to carry out the seven-year, $1 billion mission to and from the near-Earth asteroid Bennu. Scientists believe Bennu is covered with organic compounds dating back to the earliest days of the solar system. After gathering at least 2 ounces (60 grams) of material, Osiris-Rex will fly back to Earth, jettisoning a capsule bearing the asteroid-sample container for a parachute descent and landing in the Utah desert in September 2023.5 billion years ago, before Earth formed, before life started here,” NASA astrobiologist Daniel Glavin said before launch.Only one other spacecraft, Japan’s Hayabusa, has previously returned samples from an asteroid to Earth, but due to a series of problems it collected less than a milligram of material.

The United Launch Alliance booster lifted off at 7:05 pm EDT (2305 GMT) from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. NASA estimates that there is a one-in-2,700 chance that Bennu might hit Earth sometime between 2175 and 2199.“You can think of these asteroids as literally prebiotic chemical factories that were producing building blocks of life 4. United Launch Alliance is a private partnership between Lockheed and Boeing. A sampling container will then release a swirl of nitrogen gas, which will stir up gravel and soil for collection.Once it settles into orbit around Bennu in 2018, the Osiris-Rex probe will spend up to two more years mapping the asteroid’s surface and taking inventory of its chemical and mineral composition.

The US space agency also hopes Osiris-Rex will demonstrate the advanced imaging and mapping techniques needed for future science missions and for upcoming commercial asteroid-mining expeditions.Scientists will ultimately select a promising site to sample and command Osiris-Rex to fly close enough to Bennu so that the probe’s 11-foot-long (3.United Launch Alliance is a private partnership between Lockheed and Boeing. A follow-on mission, Hayabusa 2, is underway, with a return to Earth planned for December 2020.4 meter) robot arm can touch the asteroid’s surface.Although Bennu occupies the same approximate orbital distance from the sun, it poses little threat to Earth.

An Atlas 5 rocket blasted off from Florida on Thursday carrying a space probe on NASA’s first quest to collect samples from bathroom footstools for sale an asteroid and return them to Earth in hopes of learning more about the origins of life. The 3,300-pound (1,500 kg) solar-powered probe is expected to take two years to reach its destination, a dark, rocky mass roughly a third of a mile wide and shaped like giant acorn orbiting the sun at roughly the same distance as Earth.Osiris-Rex is the latest in a series of missions to asteroids that began with the 1991 flyby of asteroid Gaspra by NASA’s Jupiter-bound Galileo spacecraft.

In contrast, the global export powerhouse China already has 15 ports with over 20 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEU) capacity."The first phase took a lot of energy, we learnt a lot," he said, without elaborating. The work on the terminal began in 2015.4 million standard container units, total capacity will go up to almost 10 million. The overall capacity of the first phase, which entails a 1-km-long berth mostly built on reclaimed land, can handle three ships simultaneously, is 2. Perhaps, not their first choice to do so.Inaugurating the first phase of the fourth terminal of the plastic stool chair for sale JNPT, to be operated by the Singapore Ports, through a remote control, Modi, who also laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the Rs 16,700-core Navi Mumbai international airport here, said his government is focusing on port-led development.4 million standard container units are added.

The project has been executed with the support of Singaporean banks, Meng said, adding that features like a longer berth and modern cranes which can handle larger ships, distinguish it from other terminals of JNPT located off the financial capitals eastern coastline. On completion of the second phase by 2022, which will also have a capacity of 2.The nations largest port JNPT has a capacity of 4.8 million standard container units capacity now and with this inauguration 2."BMCT is not built for its own sake, it is built for the sake of the whole port of Mumbai.Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday dedicated the first phase of the Rs 7,900-crore 4th terminal project of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to the nation, which will raise the cargo handling capacity of the nations largest container port by 50 per cent.

He said the JNPT, which awarded the fourth terminal to the PSA in May 2014 after long delays, has struggled with capacity till now due to which ports like Mundra in the private sector have been able to attract more traffic..Expressing reservations about the BMCT being seen as a "new kid on the block" despite adding 50 per cent to the capacity, he said there is a need for all the stakeholders to work together."If we have to carve out a place for ourselves in a globalised world, we need to enhance our waterways," Modi said. The fourth terminal project seeks to double JNPTs capacity to nearly 10 million standard container units and will make it the 33rd biggest port globally. Now that the capacity has been added, government will also be able to seek investments for the economy, he added and underlined the need to have the pricing power for operators."

Because of this capacity constraint, cargo movements have been sought to move to other places. The Port of Singapore Authority (PSA) has invested Rs 4,719 crore in the first phase of terminal at Uran through its subsidiary Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal (BMCT).4 million standard container units. They would prefer to go through Mumbai as this city has a very big hinterland," Meng said.PSA Group chief executive Tan Chong Meng said the port is targeting to handle 500,000 TEUs in 2018 and then add further. If BMCT has a good reputation, the whole port of Mumbai will have a good reputation," he said

When we were to leave after the meeting, we were told to show our passports. She recalled that as Singh loved "bharwan karela", a bitter gourd dish, the family cooked it at their home in Amritsar and brought it for him.In 2013, Sarabjits sister, wife and two daughters had again China plastic foot tub travelled to Lahore, but this time the distraught family were allowed just a glimpse from a distance of a comatose Singh who had been admitted to a hospital after a brutal assault in a Pakistani jail.Dalbir Kaur said that Singhs family had gone to meet him in a Lahore jail in 2008. He was convicted of terrorism and spying by a Pakistani court and sentenced to death in 1991."

Even before the meeting was to take place, the behaviour of Pakistani authorities was bad. We were even asked to take out our kadas (bracelets)," Dalbir Kaur said. They opened the container and forcibly stuffed it into our mouths asking us to taste it first," she said."Before proceeding to meet Sarabjit in jail, a manager at a Lahore Gurudwara asked us to keep our passports there.Chandigarh: The family members of Sarabjit Singh were humiliated when they went to meet him with Pakistani authorities even wiping off the sindoor from his wifes forehead, his sister Dalbir Kaur said on Thursday amid outrage over the treatment meted out to Kulbhushan Jadhavs mother and wife."I was the only one to be granted a visa."When I met Sarabjit, he cried a lot, asking me to help prove his innocence," she recalled.

A female cop took out a handkerchief and wiped out the sindoor from Sukhpreets forehead."We had no clue of the shocking things that were to unfold before our meeting with Sarabjit," Dalbir Kaur, who hails from Amritsar district, told PTI over the phone. They took my kirpan forcibly and when I asked them to at least keep it safely, they flung it in some corner showing disrespect which deeply hurt my religious sentiments," she said. Sarabjits teenaged daughters were also mistreated, and authorities were rude even after I raised objections.Dalbir Kaur said that in 2011 too she met Singh in jail. However, the Pakistani government had stayed his execution for an indefinite period in 2008."First Pakistan portrayed the meeting of Jadhavs family as a humanitarian gesture, they then humiliated the family by asking them to remove bindis, mangalsutras etc and separated the family from him by putting up a glass screen.

Jadhavs mother and wife were stripped of their bindis, bangles and mangalsutra, made to change into different clothes and wear slippers by discarding their shoes. That was not the end of the ordeal, she said.On the treatment meted out to the family of Jadhav, who is in custody in Pakistan for alleged spying, Dalbir Kaur said after playing a cruel joke by not allowing the family to meet the Indian national freely, Pakistan was now making baseless charges of a chip, camera or a recorder in the footwear of his wife. The ordeal was similar to what Jadhavs family endured in Islamabad recently, according to Dalbir Kaur.Dalbir Kaurs brother Singh had died following an assault by the inmates at a Lahore prison in April 2013.Singhs wife Sukhpreet Kaur, his teenaged daughters Swapandeep and Poonam, besides Dalbir Kaur went to Lahore to meet the Indian national for the first time in 18 years. He passed away barely a few days later.

From now on, we should be even more firm towards Pakistan because they deserve such treatment and can only understand tough language," she said. Both Sukhpreet and I were asked to take out hair pins as well. Now, they have come up with this baseless charge of chip, camera etc. But this time too their treatment was no different."However, again the Pak authorities were rude. I think India has responded as strongly and appropriately as it should in such circumstances. When reminded that we had been asked to deposit these at the Gurudwara, the Pak authorities delayed our departure telling us that the documents were not traceable," she said
